Rare Books and Maps Department

Welcome to your premier destination for book valuations and rare book auctions! At Ewbank's, we take pride in curating and presenting exceptional collections of rare and antiquarian books, manuscripts and first editions. Our commitment to offering a diverse range of literary treasures sets us apart as a leading auction house for book enthusiasts, collectors, and sellers alike

Our book auctions, held four times a year, showcase a carefully selected array of rare and antique books, providing a unique opportunity for both buyers and sellers to engage in the world of literary exploration. Many of our offerings come from private collections and deceased estates, carefully collected and now sold by vendors seeking to find new homes for their cherished possessions due to changes in circumstances or space constraints.

Our dedicated department specialises not only in the sale of rare and antiquarian books but also in manuscripts, signed letters from renowned literary and historical figures, and vintage maps dating back to the 16th to 18th centuries. The geographical focus often extends to Surrey and its surrounding areas, creating a distinctive appeal for those interested in regional historical treasures.

Book enthusiasts will discover a diverse range of specialist areas at various price points, ensuring that our auctions cater to both seasoned collectors and those venturing into the world of rare books for the first time.

In our past auctions, we've unearthed literary treasures from the 19th century, such as the first edition of James Joyce's "Ulysses" published in 1922, and Ian Fleming's inaugural edition of "Casino Royale" from 1953. Additionally, antique gems have graced our auctions, including a 1780 edition of Miguel de Cervantes' "Don Quixote" and a manuscript translated and produced by the esteemed Italian printer Aldus Manutius in 1503.

Whether you are on the lookout for a specific edition, a unique manuscript, or a vintage map with historical significance, our auctions offer a diverse selection to meet your literary interests.

For those looking to sell rare books or curious about book valuations, Ewbank’s provides a seamless platform. Our auctions benefit from the widespread use of online word-search facilities, making it easy for buyers to locate and acquire the books they desire.
